Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification
Advanced Certification Institute offers online training and certification courses for laymen and professionals to acquire certifications and CME/CE credits for the recognition, assessment and treatment of pediatric emergencies. The pediatric advanced life support certification online, or PALS, is part of a suite of courses we provide for those looking to understand the pediatric cardiac and respiratory emergency steps required to save lives. The BLS, or Basic Life Support class, is the first course, with the opportunity to take the advanced ACLS course, and the PALS, or Pediatric Advanced Life Support course.
The Basic Life Support program covers the basics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the PALS course includes this material and continues on to advanced treatment options for the pediatric victim of cardiac arrest. All students should have a working knowledge of Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) and Basic ECG Rhythm Identification prior to beginning the PALS course.
The primary goal of the PALS course is to recognize life-threatening pediatric emergencies, and to provide prompt assessment and treatment during the initial minutes of an emergency. It also covers cardiac emergencies, including both cardiac arrest and cardiac arrhythmias that may lead to cardiac arrest. Respiratory emergencies are addressed, including upper and lower airway obstructions, lung tissue disease, and disordered control of breathing, as well as shock, including hypovolemic, obstructive, distributive, and cardiogenic shock. The recognition, assessment and treatment of pediatric emergencies is a critical component of the ERS, or Emergency Response System, and pediatric cardiac and respiratory emergency steps are covered as well.
Each course includes an online guidebook that covers the course material. The BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses all follow internationally accepted treatment guidelines developed from evidence-based practice. Students may review the material and take the tests in sequence at their own schedule. The tests can be taken any number of times until the student passes, and then they will receive an online certification and acknowledgment of their participation in the program. The certification can be independently verified by employers or prospective employers.
